Suspected bandits have attacked a church in Ifelodun
Local Government Area, abducting eight worshippers during a Sunday service.
The incident occurred at the ECWA Church Omugo on
March 22, 2026, when the gunmen reportedly stormed the premises and fired shots
into the air to disperse the congregation before taking victims to an unknown
location.
Reports indicate that three of the abducted
worshippers later managed to escape from their captors.
The Kwara State Government confirmed the attack in a
statement issued by the Commissioner for Communications, Bolanle Olukoju.
The government commended security agencies, forest
guards, and local vigilantes for their swift response, which led to the rescue
of the three victims.
It also condemned the attack, describing the targeting
of a place of worship as unacceptable.
Authorities have directed security forces and
community stakeholders to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining victims and
apprehend those responsible.
The government further assured residents of its
commitment to safeguarding lives and property, while urging continued
collaboration between security operatives, vigilantes, and local communities to
curb criminal activities in the area.
