The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
has confirmed the resumption of the Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration
(CVR) exercise, with its third and final phase set to begin on May 11, 2026.
According to a statement issued by Mohammed Kudu
Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the exercise
will run until July 10, 2026. The previous phase was paused on April 17 to
allow for the cleanup of the voter register following its publication for
public review and objections.
INEC urged all eligible Nigerians—particularly those
who have recently turned 18 or missed earlier registration phases—to take
advantage of this final window to register.
The commission also encouraged already registered
voters to update their details where necessary. This includes transferring
voter registration, replacing lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or
correcting personal information. These services can be accessed via the
commission’s online portal or at INEC offices across states and local
government areas nationwide.
As part of the process, INEC will display the updated
Register of Voters for public scrutiny between July 23 and July 29, 2026. This
step allows citizens to raise claims and objections, helping to ensure the
accuracy and credibility of the voter database.
The commission assured Nigerians that all necessary
arrangements have been put in place for a smooth exercise and called on
citizens to actively participate in strengthening the country’s electoral
system.
