Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala suffered a
worrying on-field scare during the club’s 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig in the
Telekom Cup Final on Saturday, August 15.
The Germany international appeared to lose his balance
during the closing stages of the match and had to be supported by teammate
Ismael Saibari as he struggled to remain on his feet.
Musiala, who had scored Bayern’s third goal, appeared
disorientated shortly afterwards as temperatures reached around 33 degrees
Celsius. He became increasingly unsteady before eventually beginning to
collapse.
Saibari quickly moved to assist him, with Joshua
Kimmich also nearby as Musiala was helped to the ground. Bayern’s medical team
immediately entered the pitch to attend to the 23-year-old.
After several minutes of treatment, the medical staff
determined that there was no immediate serious problem. Musiala was eventually
helped to the touchline, where he received applause from supporters chanting
his name.
Speaking after the match, Bayern goalkeeper Manuel
Neuer said further assessments would determine exactly what had happened, while
expressing his hope that Musiala would be fine.
Bayern sporting director Max Eberl also offered
reassurance, saying the most important thing was that the midfielder was doing
well.
Initial examinations reportedly showed no major
medical concerns. Musiala complained of dizziness and circulatory problems
believed to have been triggered by the heat and is expected to rest and recover
in the coming days.
