Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former
Anambra State Governor Peter Obi have congratulated Ademola Adeleke on his
victory in the Osun State governorship election.
The two opposition leaders separately reacted to the
result on their X accounts, commending voters for their participation and
describing the election as an important demonstration of democratic choice.
Atiku said Adeleke’s re-election reflected the
decision of the people of Osun at the polls. He also praised voters for
participating peacefully and wished the governor success during his second
term.
Obi, in a statement titled “Osun: When the People
Stand, Democracy Wins,” said the election highlighted the power of citizens to
determine their leaders through the ballot.
He attributed Adeleke’s return to office to the
governor’s performance and commitment, while particularly commending young
voters for remaining vigilant in protecting their votes.
Obi urged Nigerians to remain actively involved in
future elections by registering, voting and safeguarding their ballots. He also
called on political leaders to put the public interest first and maintain
peace.
According to him, elections should be based on
competing ideas, competence, character and service rather than violence.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC)
declared Adeleke the winner after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating his
closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who
polled 444,815 votes.
