As part of preparations for the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made the use of Microsoft Camera compulsory for all accredited Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres handling candidate registration.

The directive, reaffirmed during a monitoring visit by JAMB’s Gombe State Coordinator, Mr. Johnson Adebiyi, to the El-Lawanti ICT Centre in Gombe on September 30, 2025, takes full effect from October 1, 2025.

According to JAMB, the decision follows a review of the 2025 UTME which uncovered widespread image manipulation and impersonation during registration. The Microsoft Camera system is expected to strengthen biometric verification and curb high-tech exam malpractices such as image blending and AI-assisted photo morphing.

Adebiyi warned that any CBT centre failing to comply risk being delisted from JAMB’s operations. He also urged centres to take advantage of expanded opportunities, including collaborations with WAEC and NECO, which now adopt the CBT model for their exams.

Meanwhile, JAMB recently inaugurated a 23-member Special Committee on Examination Infractions to investigate over 6,400 suspected cases of tech-driven cheating recorded in 2025. Findings revealed 4,251 instances of biometric manipulation, 190 cases of AI image morphing, and 1,878 false identity declarations.

In response, the Federal Government has approved a three-year ban for candidates caught in exam malpractice across JAMB, WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB — with enforcement linked to the National Identification Number (NIN) for effective tracking.
