The Kano State
Commissioner for Anti-Corruption, Salihu Namadi, has resigned from his position
following the submission of a damning investigative panel report to Governor Abba
Kabir Yusuf.
Namadi’s resignation was officially announced on
Wednesday through a statement issued by the Director General of Media and
Publicity, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The statement noted that the decision
was made "in the public interest" and aimed at preserving the
integrity of the Yusuf-led administration.
In his resignation letter, Namadi maintained his
innocence but acknowledged the gravity of public perception.
“As a member of an administration that has
consistently championed the fight against the sales and consumption of illicit
drugs, it behoves me to take this step—painful as it may be,” he said.
“I cannot ignore the weight of public perception and
the need to protect the values we have collectively built.”
He expressed gratitude to the governor for the
opportunity to serve and reaffirmed his dedication to the principles of good
governance.
Governor Yusuf accepted the resignation, restating his
zero-tolerance stance on drug-related offenses and stressing the need for
discipline and responsibility among all public office holders. He also advised
appointees to seek proper clearance before involving themselves in sensitive
public matters.
Earlier this week, the state government received the
findings of a fact-finding committee led by Aminu Hussain, Special Adviser on
Justice and Constitutional Matters. The report found that Namadi acted
negligently by standing as surety for Danwawu, a suspect linked to drug-related
offenses, without conducting proper due diligence.
The resignation marks a significant moment in the
state’s ongoing efforts to reinforce accountability and transparency in public
service.
