The Kebbi State Police Command says it has commenced
an investigation into reports alleging the resurgence of a group known as
"Sai Malam" in Argungu Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Friday, June 26, the Police
Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the Command is aware of the
reports and is currently verifying the claims using actionable intelligence.
The police, however, clarified that the "Sai
Malam" group has not been designated as a terrorist organisation under any
existing proscription order.
According to the statement, individuals arrested and
prosecuted by the Command in Zuru in February 2026 were investigated solely for
alleged criminal activities and not for terrorism-related offences.
Usman disclosed that exhibits recovered from the
suspects included suspected counterfeit currencies from several countries,
including the Nigerian Naira, United States Dollar, CFA Franc, and Libyan
Dinar. Officers also recovered items believed to be ritual or occult materials.
He noted that no firearms were recovered from the
suspects during the operation.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining
law and order across the state, assuring residents that it would continue to
take decisive action against all forms of criminality in accordance with the
law.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to
remain calm and continue supporting security agencies by providing credible and
timely information to aid ongoing investigations.
