Kingsley Chinda, a member of the House of
Representatives, has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress
governorship primary election in Rivers State.
Chinda, who was the sole aspirant in the contest,
reportedly secured **268,497 votes**.
Announcing the result, the returning officer, Bitrus
Kwamoti, said the votes represented the number of APC members who supported
Chinda across the state during the exercise.
According to Kwamoti, the figure was a true reflection
of the votes collated from different parts of Rivers State.
He added that Chinda met the requirements of the APC
constitution and the party’s election guidelines.
Kwamoti also said the primary election was conducted
peacefully and in an orderly manner across all wards in the state.
“The exercise was free, fair and orderly. It was in
line with the party’s constitution and guidelines,” he said.
He commended APC members and residents of Rivers State
for their peaceful conduct during the process.
Reacting to the outcome, APC chieftain Felix Obuah
said Chinda’s emergence had strengthened the party’s chances of winning the
governorship election in the state.
Obuah described Chinda as the best candidate for the
party, saying his selection showed unity among Rivers people, regardless of
ethnic background.
He also praised Chinda as a reliable administrator who
is committed to the development of Rivers State.
Chinda’s emergence followed the withdrawal of Governor
Siminalayi Fubara, Tonye Cole, and George Kelly from the race, leaving him as
the only aspirant in the primary.
