Lagos, June 24, 2025
– The Lagos State Government has introduced the Lagos Identity Project,
a cutting-edge, digitally enabled house-numbering system that combines QR-coded
address plates with color-coded identifiers for each Local Government Area
(LGA) to enhance property identification, tax compliance, urban planning, and
public services across the state.
Project Highlights
- QR?Code
Integration: Each building is assigned a QR code
embedded into its address plate. Scanning this code provides instant
access to verified property data—boosting tracking efficiency and reducing
issues like rental fraud and untraceable addresses .
- Color?Coded
by LGA: Distinct colors allow rapid
identification of jurisdiction, aiding services such as emergency
response, postal delivery, and urban planning.
- Smart
City Alignment: The initiative aligns with Lagos’s
broader smart city agenda, building on previous achievements like its
central data hub and enterprise GIS system launched under Tinubu’s
governorship and now recognized globally.

Tax Evasion: By digitizing property IDs, the
government can bring undocumented properties into the tax net and boost
internally generated revenue

times for emergencies, efficient postal and courier services, and
data-driven urban planning

aerial mapping from tech partner Interspatial
