The Lagos State Government has sealed off Vaniti
Club House on Adeola Odeku Street, Victoria Island, for repeatedly
violating the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.
According to a statement released on Monday by Mr.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic
Management Authority (LASTMA), the enforcement was carried out due to the
club’s habitual facilitation of illegal roadside parking and highway
encroachment, which posed serious risks to public safety and disrupted
traffic flow.
What Happened:
The Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018
prohibits any activity that obstructs vehicular movement or compromises road
user safety. Such offenses attract strict sanctions.
Government’s Position:
Bakare-Oki emphasized that this is not an isolated
incident, but part of a wider crackdown:
“We are actively monitoring other clubs, lounges, and
event centers that misuse public roads for private gain.”
The state reiterated its zero-tolerance policy
towards traffic obstruction and warned that more facilities could face closure
if found violating the law.
Bottom Line:
The closure of Vaniti Club signals Lagos State’s renewed commitment to curbing
traffic congestion and restoring public order, especially in
high-traffic areas like Victoria Island.
