Premier League champions Liverpool have reached an
agreement to sign Swedish striker Alexander Isak from Newcastle United
in a British record transfer, according to multiple media outlets.
The deal, reportedly worth around £130 million
($176 million), surpasses the previous Premier League transfer record of £106
million, which Chelsea paid Benfica for Enzo Fernandez in 2023.
According to The Athletic and The Telegraph,
Isak is expected to undergo a medical on Monday before finalizing a six-year
contract with the Merseyside club.
The 24-year-old forward has been one of the standout
performers in the Premier League since joining Newcastle from Real Sociedad in
2022, impressing with his pace, technical ability, and consistent goal-scoring.
His arrival at Anfield is seen as a major statement by Liverpool as they look
to reinforce their attacking options.
Isak’s transfer would represent a significant profit
for Newcastle, who signed him for a then-club-record £63 million. However, the
move also highlights the financial challenges clubs face in complying with the
Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.
Liverpool, under new leadership following Jürgen
Klopp’s departure, appear determined to maintain their dominance both
domestically and in Europe, with Isak’s signing viewed as a marquee addition to
their frontline.
If confirmed, the transfer will not only break the
British transfer record but also send shockwaves across the footballing world,
reaffirming Liverpool’s intent to remain at the very top.
