The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man
identified as Mr Abuchi for allegedly killing his wife in Amaji village,
Umuoyoro Community, Omuma Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday, February
19, 2026, when the couple had gone to their farm in Amaji village.
According to a source, an argument broke out between
the husband and wife while they were at the farm. During the altercation, the
suspect allegedly used a kitchen knife to fatally stab his wife, a mother of
two.
“People became aware of the incident when the woman
screamed loudly. The scream attracted other villagers working nearby. They
rushed to the scene, overpowered the man and restrained him,” the source said.
The development has thrown the community into shock,
with residents expressing disbelief over what may have led to the fatal
dispute.
A security source, who spoke on condition of
anonymity, said the suspect reportedly told investigators that he did not know
what came over him at the time of the incident.
The suspect was later handed over to the Eberi Police
Division for further investigation.
Confirming the incident on Friday, the command’s
spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that the suspect is in custody.
“Yes, I can confirm the incident. The suspect has been
arrested and the Commissioner of Police has ordered a detailed investigation to
ensure timely justice,” she said.
Police authorities assured that a thorough
investigation is underway and that anyone found culpable will be prosecuted in
accordance with the law.
