Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed
with a knee injury after undergoing medical tests following his early
withdrawal from France’s 1–0 victory over Turkey.
Real Madrid confirmed that medical examinations
revealed a hyperextension of the posterior capsule of Mbappe’s left knee.
The France captain scored the opening goal in Friday’s
UEFA Nations League encounter before leaving the pitch shortly afterwards.
France coach Zinedine Zidane said the team would avoid
taking any risks with the 27-year-old and confirmed that Mbappe would miss
France’s next three Nations League matches.
France are scheduled to travel to Belgium on Monday
before hosting Italy and Belgium at the Stade de France on October 2 and
October 5 respectively.
Mbappe’s injury has also raised concerns over his
availability for Real Madrid following the international break. The Spanish
club are due to face Villarreal on October 10, although that match could come
too soon for the forward to return.
However, Spanish newspaper AS reported that Mbappe is
expected to be fit in time for Real Madrid’s El Clasico against Barcelona on
October 25.
Real Madrid will monitor his recovery in the coming
weeks as the club assesses when the France international can safely return to
action.
