A 46-year-old woman, Eneless Hellen Kamutumbe, has been brutally killed by a mob in Kalumbila District following a bizarre accusation that she possessed powers to make men’s private parts disappear.

According to police reports, the incident occurred between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, in the Kisasa area. The chaos began after a 25-year-old man, Prince Ntambo, alleged that his manhood vanished shortly after he came into contact with the woman at a local market.

The claim sparked panic among residents, quickly escalating into mob action. Armed with sticks, stones, and planks, an angry crowd descended on the woman, subjecting her to a violent assault.

Attempts by a good Samaritan to shield her inside a nearby house failed, as the mob forced its way in, dragged her out, and continued the attack.

Police officers who responded to the scene were also targeted, with stones thrown at them, making rescue efforts difficult. The victim later succumbed to her injuries, and her body was reportedly dumped along the Mwinilunga–Solwezi Road before being recovered by authorities.

She was taken to Wumi Mini Hospital, where she was confirmed dead. Her remains have since been deposited in a mortuary pending a postmortem examination.

Zambian police confirmed the arrest of eight suspects, including Ntambo, who are currently assisting with investigations. Police deputy spokesperson Chipo Kaitisha revealed that three officers were injured during the unrest, and a police vehicle was damaged.

Authorities also noted that a similar incident occurred recently in Chingola, where another individual was falsely accused of the same act. Investigations later confirmed that the claims were baseless.

Police have strongly condemned the act of mob justice, urging citizens to refrain from taking the law into their own hands and to allow due process to prevail.

The tragic incident highlights the dangers of misinformation and mass hysteria, as well as the urgent need for public awareness and trust in law enforcement.
