President Yoweri Museveni has been sworn in for a
seventh term, extending his long-running leadership after winning the January
2026 presidential election.
The inauguration ceremony took place on May 12, 2026,
at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala, where Museveni officially took
his oath of office for another five-year term.
His re-election followed a decisive victory in which
he reportedly secured 71.65 percent of the vote, defeating opposition candidate
Bobi Wine, who polled 24.72 percent according to official results.
The 81-year-old leader has now extended his rule,
making him one of Africa’s longest-serving heads of state, having first assumed
office in 1986.
Museveni, born in 1944 in the Mbarara district of
Uganda, has maintained power for four decades, overseeing multiple election
cycles and constitutional changes during his tenure.
He studied political science at the University of Dar
es Salaam, where he was active in student political movements, including the
University Students’ African Revolutionary Front.
His latest inauguration further cements his continued
dominance in Ugandan politics following nearly 40 years in office.
