The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has clarified that
its C-130 transport aircraft made a precautionary landing in
Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso, on Monday after the crew detected a technical
concern shortly after takeoff from Lagos.
The Director of Public Relations and Information,
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday
in Abuja.
According to Ejodame, the aircraft was on a ferry
mission to Portugal for scheduled maintenance when the crew decided to
divert, in line with standard safety procedures and international aviation
protocols.
He explained that the decision was taken purely as a
safety precaution and not as a result of an emergency.
“The aircrew landed safely and have since received
cordial support from Burkinabe authorities,” Ejodame said, adding that arrangements
are ongoing to resume the mission once all required technical checks are
completed.
The Air Force spokesman reassured the public that the NAF
remains committed to strict adherence to operational and safety standards,
while prioritising the protection of its personnel in the discharge of its
constitutional responsibilities.
