The National Assembly has announced new access
restrictions around the Senate President’s office, limiting entry to lawmakers
only.
This was contained in a memo dated October 2,
signed by the Sergeant-at-Arms, Etido Ekpo, a retired brigadier-general.
According to the memo, the corridor linking the White
House lobby to the Senate President’s office will henceforth be reserved
exclusively for senators and members of the House of Representatives.
“Aides and personal assistants will no longer be
permitted access to the passage,” the statement read. Lawmakers are expected to
brief their aides on the new directive.
Ekpo explained that the measure is intended to ensure
a “secure and safe environment” for legislative duties.
The National Assembly is scheduled to resume
plenary on October 7, following a recess of over two months.
