Tragedy struck on Thursday as Commandant Agun
Gbenga of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo
State Command, collapsed and died shortly after delivering a goodwill
message at an event.
Gbenga was attending a programme organised by the International
Association of World Peace Advocates at the Bishop Kelly Pastoral Centre
when the incident occurred. Eyewitnesses said his sudden collapse shocked
participants, as he had appeared healthy upon arrival.
The state NSCDC command confirmed his death in a
statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Efosa Ogbebor.
According to the statement, Gbenga was immediately
rushed to the Military Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“As an astute operations officer, Commandant Agun
Gbenga worked tirelessly to ensure the protection of the lives and property of
citizens. His humility, friendliness, and intelligence earned him great respect
and admiration. His dedication to duty and commitment to excellence will be
deeply missed,” the statement read.
The command described his passing as a great loss,
adding that “the NSCDC Edo State Command and the nation have lost a
dedicated officer. May his soul rest in peace.”
