The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 101-year-old woman, Esther Ogunmabo, for allegedly selling cannabis in Ilisan, Ogun State.

Ogunmabo was arrested on Saturday, August 15, 2026, after NDLEA operatives reportedly found 90 grammes of skunk, a form of cannabis, in her possession. The substance was allegedly packaged in small quantities for distribution within the community.

According to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi, the centenarian admitted to selling cannabis to residents in the area. She reportedly explained that she turned to the illicit trade after a fire destroyed her provisions store.

Babafemi said Ogunmabo also claimed that one of her daughters, who lives in Lagos, supplied her with the cannabis every four days, which she then sold in smaller quantities.

Following her arrest, NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.), directed that the elderly woman be granted bail and referred for counselling in consideration of her advanced age.

The agency also confirmed that the daughter allegedly involved in supplying the cannabis has been arrested as investigations continue.

The incident has drawn attention to the unusual circumstances surrounding the case, particularly the suspect’s age and her claim that she became involved in the illegal trade after losing her means of livelihood.
