Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency
have arrested a 74-year-old man, Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, at the
departure hall of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after a large quantity
of cocaine was discovered concealed in his luggage.
The septuagenarian, who claimed he was travelling to
London in the United Kingdom for vacation, was intercepted while attempting to
board British Airways flight BA082 bound for Heathrow Airport on
Saturday, March 14, 2026.
According to officials, NDLEA officers carried out a
search on his luggage during routine checks at the airport. The search led to
the discovery of blocks of cocaine weighing 11 kilograms.
The illicit substance was reportedly hidden inside
food items, including ground dry pepper, and carefully wrapped in foil papers
and balloons to evade detection.
Authorities have since taken the suspect into custody
while investigations continue into the attempted drug trafficking operation.
