Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a 74-year-old man, Ikwuakalom Nwakoro Emeka, at the departure hall of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after a large quantity of cocaine was discovered concealed in his luggage.

The septuagenarian, who claimed he was travelling to London in the United Kingdom for vacation, was intercepted while attempting to board British Airways flight BA082 bound for Heathrow Airport on Saturday, March 14, 2026.

According to officials, NDLEA officers carried out a search on his luggage during routine checks at the airport. The search led to the discovery of blocks of cocaine weighing 11 kilograms.

The illicit substance was reportedly hidden inside food items, including ground dry pepper, and carefully wrapped in foil papers and balloons to evade detection.

Authorities have since taken the suspect into custody while investigations continue into the attempted drug trafficking operation.
