Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
has accused Iran of masterminding two failed assassination attempts on former
U.S. President Donald Trump during his third presidential campaign last year.
In an interview with Fox News anchor Brett Baier on
Sunday, Netanyahu claimed the Iranian regime viewed Trump as the foremost
obstacle to its nuclear ambitions, branding him “the greatest threat to Iran.”
“The regime in Tehran made a calculated decision,”
Netanyahu said. “They believed that eliminating President Trump would remove a
key barrier standing in the way of their nuclear program.”
Netanyahu did not provide specific evidence to support
his allegations during the broadcast, and U.S. authorities have yet to publicly
comment on any such plots linked to Iran.
The Israeli leader’s remarks come amid escalating
tensions between Iran and Israel, following a series of military confrontations
and cyber skirmishes in recent months.
