Netflix is set to remove its acclaimed interactive
film Black Mirror: Bandersnatch from its platform on Monday, May 12,
2025. This decision marks the end of Netflix's foray into interactive
storytelling, a venture that began in 2017 with titles like Puss in Book:
Trapped in an Epic Tale and gained prominence with Bandersnatch in
2018 .
Bandersnatch,
notable for its choose-your-own-adventure format, allowed viewers to make
decisions that influenced the narrative's outcome, offering a unique and
immersive viewing experience. Despite its initial success and critical acclaim,
including winning two Primetime Emmy Awards, Netflix has decided to phase out
such interactive specials .
The removal of Bandersnatch coincides with
Netflix's broader strategic pivot towards traditional gaming experiences. The
company is now focusing on developing and expanding its mobile and cloud-based
gaming library, investing in various gaming categories such as Party Games,
Narrative Games, Kids Games, and Mainstream Games .
In addition to Bandersnatch, Netflix will also
remove Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend, the last of
its interactive specials, signaling a complete departure from this content
format
As of now, Netflix has not announced any plans to
preserve Bandersnatch or other interactive titles through alternative
formats or platforms. Viewers interested in experiencing these interactive
stories are encouraged to do so before their removal on May 12, 2025.
