President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF),
Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has paid a warm hospitality visit to Super Eagles striker
Taiwo Awoniyi, who is currently recovering from injury at his base in England.
The visit, which took place at Awoniyi’s residence in
Nottingham Forest , is part of Gusau’s ongoing efforts to maintain close
relationships with national team players and boost morale ahead of Nigeria’s
crucial international fixtures. Gusau, accompanied by top NFF officials,
commended Awoniyi for his dedication to the national team and expressed the
federation’s full support as the forward continues his recovery.
“Taiwo has always shown great commitment whenever he
is called upon to represent the Super Eagles,” Gusau said during the visit.
“This visit is to let him know that the entire Nigerian football family is
behind him, and we are confident he will return stronger and better.”
Awoniyi, who plies his trade with Nottingham Forest in
the English Premier League, has been sidelined for several weeks due to a
muscular injury sustained earlier this year. The 26-year-old forward expressed
gratitude to the NFF leadership for the thoughtful gesture and reaffirmed his
readiness to return to national duty as soon as he is fully fit.
“I feel truly honoured by the President’s visit,”
Awoniyi said. “It means a lot to see that the NFF cares not just about us when
we are on the pitch, but also off it. I am working hard every day to come back
stronger for club and country.”
This marks yet another in a series of personal
outreach efforts by Gusau, who has consistently emphasized the importance of
player welfare and team unity since assuming office. The NFF president noted
that such visits are not just symbolic, but essential for building a stronger
bond between the federation and its players.
The visit comes at a crucial time as the Super Eagles
prepare for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Awoniyi’s return is
eagerly anticipated by fans and coaching staff, especially following his
impressive form in previous international appearances.
