As Nigerians prepare to mark the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary, the National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC), Rev. Ambassador Samuel Ikpea, has called for peace, unity, and patriotism among citizens.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, Ikpea congratulated Nigerians on the milestone and urged them to reflect on the significance of the day while working collectively to move the nation forward.

“The celebration calls for sober reflection and unity of purpose among citizens in order to build a society we will all be proud of,” he said. “Though the nation is grappling with many challenges, the best we can do is to project Nigeria positively and make meaningful contributions in our little corners.”

Ikpea stressed that nation-building requires collective effort, noting that while constructive criticism is healthy, “mere condemnation and lamentations will not help.” He encouraged Nigerians to live with love, unity, and peace to achieve progress.

The NFSC Chairman also commended the Federal Government’s theme for this year’s anniversary — “Nigeria @65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation” — describing it as apt and reflective of the country’s realities.

“This is a reminder that we must all put aside our differences and work together — government, private sector, civil society organizations, sports stakeholders, and citizens alike — to build a Nigeria of peace, prosperity, and unity,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Supporters Club has lined up activities for the celebration. Events will kick off with an Independence Day Walk starting from Surulere through the National Stadium, Shitta, and Ojuelegba areas of Lagos. The celebration will climax with a grand anniversary party at the club’s Funsho Williams Avenue National Headquarters, where about 60 new members will be formally inducted.
