The Niger Delta Sports Festival torch has finally
arrived in Akwa Ibom, marking the culmination of its tour across the nine Niger
Delta states. The torch is scheduled to be received by His Excellency, Governor
Umo Eno, at the Executive Council Chambers (Exco) today at 1 pm.
This symbolic gesture is a precursor to the opening
ceremony of the Niger Delta Sports Festival, which is slated to take place this
afternoon at the Uyo Township Stadium. The festival, which runs from April 1 to
8, 2025, promises to be an exciting display of athletic prowess and unity among
the Niger Delta states.
The torch's journey across the region has been met
with enthusiasm and fanfare, with each state hosting a unique ceremony to mark
its arrival. From Abia State, where the torch was received by Governor Alex
Otti, to Ondo State, where it was welcomed by Aiyedatiwa, the torch has been a
symbol of unity and athletic excellence.
As the festival kicks off today, athletes from across
the Niger Delta region will converge on Uyo, Akwa Ibom, to compete in various
sporting events. The festival promises to be an exciting celebration of sports,
culture, and unity, and the arrival of the torch marks the beginning of an
unforgettable experience.
