Shaboozey has won the Grammy Award for Best Country
Duo/Group Performance for Amen, his gospel-inspired collaboration with
Jelly Roll. The track, featured on Jelly Roll’s album, blends contemporary
country sounds with themes of faith, redemption, and gratitude.
The award marks a milestone for the Woodbridge,
Virginia-born artist of Igbo-Nigerian descent, whose music uniquely fuses
hip-hop, R&B, and country influences. It also represents Jelly Roll’s first
Grammy, highlighting the growing acceptance of genre-crossing artists in
country music.
Shaboozey received the accolade during the Grammy
Premiere Ceremony, arriving moments before his category was announced.
Overwhelmed with emotion, he struggled to hold back tears during one of the
night’s most memorable acceptance speeches.
He opened by thanking God before dedicating the award
to his mother, “an immigrant who retired from her nursing career that very day
after more than 30 years of working multiple jobs to support her family.”
The singer then expanded his dedication to all
immigrants in the United States, celebrating their contributions to the
country’s culture and identity.
“This is for all children of immigrants. This is also
for those who came to this country seeking better opportunities, to be part of
a nation that promised freedom and equality to everyone willing to work for
it,” he said.
“Thank you for bringing your culture, your music, your stories and your
traditions here. You give America colour. Immigrants built this country,
literally.”
Shaboozey’s heartfelt speech was widely praised online
as one of the ceremony’s most emotional moments. He later credited his
management teams at American Dogwood and EMPIRE for their support, describing
the win as “surreal” during backstage celebrations.
The full 68th Grammy Awards ceremony aired on CBS and
was streamed via Paramount, featuring numerous performances and tributes to
global music icons.
