The Nigerian military successfully repelled a
coordinated assault by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Mairari,
Borno State, between late December 12 and the early hours of December 13, 2025.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer
of Operation HADIN KAI, revealed that the attackers attempted to breach the
base using two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs). Swift
ground and air responses from the troops prevented any breach, destroying both
explosive-laden vehicles and neutralizing several insurgents.
“CCTV footage and battlefield assessments confirmed
that several terrorists were killed, while others were injured,” Lt. Col. Uba
said.
Mop-up operations, supported by the Theatre Command
Quick Reaction Group, Nigeria Police Crack Team, and the Civilian Joint Task
Force, led to the recovery of arms, ammunition, and other logistics abandoned
by the insurgents. Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, grenades,
motorcycles, communication devices, and medical supplies.
Although the VBIED explosions caused minor road
damage, the base itself remained intact, with no breach recorded. Troops are
continuing aggressive patrols in the area, reaffirming the military’s
commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring peace across the North East.
