The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),
Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering results despite
criticisms of his leadership style . According to a video that
was shared by SYMFONI TV from 5.31, speaking during a press briefing about an
ongoing road project in Abuja, Wike said he remains undistracted by complaints,
emphasizing that criticism is a normal part of governance.
“Nothing distracts me; I’m very focused,” Wike stated.
“Even if people complain, it’s part of governance. You can’t lead people and
expect everyone to be satisfied. People must complain, but such complaints
cannot distract us.”
He further explained that while some may criticize his
decisions, especially regarding the demolition of illegal structures, his
actions are for the greater good. Wike insisted that clearing shanties and
illegal buildings is necessary for the development and safety of the FCT.
“Forget about people saying ‘demolition.’ Demolition
must go ahead. We must demolish shanties and illegal buildings, no matter what
anyone says,” he said. “At the end of the day, they will come back to
acknowledge the work we’ve done. What matters is doing what’s right.”
The minister urged his team to stay focused, reminding
them that their goal is to serve the majority and not a select few . He
assured citizens that his administration’s actions aim to create a better FCT
for everyone.
Wike’s statement reflects his determination to
implement policies and make tough decisions for the progress of Abuja, even in
the face of opposition.
