DELTA: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, today presented the 2025 appropriation bill to the State House of Assembly, earmarking significant allocations for infrastructure development and education.

The governor submitted a budget totaling N936.08 billion to the Assembly in Asaba, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to strengthening the state’s core sectors.

In a session held at the Assembly Complex on Okpanam Road, Governor Oborevwori described the budget as one of "fiscal consolidation," highlighting his intent to solidify gains achieved in previous years.

According to Governor Oborevwori, “This budget underscores our dedication to advancing Delta State’s infrastructure, education, and social welfare,” Oborevwori stated. “We want to build a resilient state where opportunities are open for all.”

The proposed budget allocates N348.71 billion for recurrent expenditure and N587.36 billion for capital projects. This marks a strategic focus on capital-intensive projects, with infrastructure leading the way, aimed at enhancing urban and rural development. “Our capital expenditure will focus on road construction, healthcare facilities, and educational improvements, ensuring every Deltan feels the impact of government,” the governor explained.

Education has also been allocated a substantial portion of the budget, reflecting the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of schooling across the state. Governor Oborevwori remarked, “We are prioritizing education because it is the bedrock of progress. We will equip our institutions with the resources needed to raise the next generation of leaders.”

The governor added that his administration would also focus on youth empowerment and job creation, particularly through skill acquisition programs. “We recognize the importance of creating jobs and providing skills for our youth. Through this budget, we aim to empower our young people to contribute meaningfully to our economy,” he said.

The legislative session witnessed the lawmakers commending the governor’s vision, with many expressing confidence in the proposed allocations. Emeka Nwaobi, Majority Leader of the Assembly, praised the budget’s alignment with the needs of the people. “This proposal is tailored to the needs of our state. I believe it will greatly impact our communities,” he noted.

Speaker of the House, Hon. Dennis Guwor, assured that the Assembly would give the budget the necessary legislative scrutiny. “Our duty is to ensure the effective implementation of this budget. We will work closely with the executive to ensure the funds are channeled appropriately,” Guwor stated.

Governor Oborevwori urged the Assembly to pass the bill promptly, promising that his administration would remain transparent in managing the funds allocated. “We are committed to transparency and accountability, and I assure Deltans that every naira will be spent judiciously to improve their lives,” he affirmed.

With the 2025 appropriation bill now under legislative review, Deltans await the Assembly’s response, anticipating a year of robust growth and development.
