The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a
30-year-old man, Bayegun Nathaniel, for the alleged abduction and killing of a
16-year-old girl, Adegbaaju Florence, in Ojigo, Sagamu Local Government Area of
Ogun State.
The victim was reportedly kidnapped last month in the
Ogijo area before the case was reported to the police, prompting an intensive
investigation by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi
Babaseyi, the suspect was arrested on May 2, 2026, following sustained
intelligence-led operations. He allegedly confessed to the crime and claimed he
acted alone.
The suspect also admitted that a ransom of ?500,000
was collected. However, investigations revealed that the victim was later
killed and her body disposed of in a river within the Ogijo area.
Police authorities say efforts are ongoing to recover
the remains for forensic examination, while further investigations continue to
ensure full prosecution of the case.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, expressed
sympathy to the bereaved family and assured that justice would be served. He
reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and bringing
perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
In a separate incident, the command also recovered a
single-barrel long gun and six live cartridges after a suspect fled during a
stop-and-search operation.
Police said the unidentified suspect abandoned the
weapon and ammunition while escaping on an unregistered motorcycle after
sighting operatives. The exhibits have been secured at the command’s armoury,
and efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.
The police reiterated their zero tolerance for illegal
firearms and urged continued public cooperation in reporting suspicious
activities.
