Condemning the development, Ebiwanno in a statement made available to SaharaReporters, accused the state governor of using the money to entice the voting public on the pretext of benevolence
Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the
Governor of Ondo State is facing criticism after being filmed spraying money on
the streets of Akure, the state capital, in an alleged attempt to entice voters.
A legal practitioner, Lade
Ebiwanno, slammed the governor for such illegal public display.
The video shared with
SaharaReporters on Wednesday showed Governor Aiyedatiwa throwing bundles of
money on a crowd of people which hailed him.
The actual date of the video
could not yet be verified, although witnesses claimed it was recent.
Condemning the development,
Ebiwanno in a statement made available to SaharaReporters, accused the state
governor of using the money to entice the voting public on the pretext of
benevolence.
Ebiwanno stated,"I just
watched a video where the Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency, Lucky
Orimisan Ayedatiwa was spraying money on the streets of Akure to entice the
voting public and ingratiate himself with them on the pretext of benevolence and
I begin to wonder and ask myself whether this man truly understands the
gravitas of the vantage position or office he occupies as a public officer.
"Does this mean the
Governor can't give us a snippet of what constitutes decency and morality or
the current government in Ondo state is crammed with people who are bareft of
infrastructure of ideas that can advise Governor on planning and implementation
of programmes instead of allowing him to be bringing his exalted office and
himself to disrepute?
"This action raises a lot
of posers on the integrity of Mr. Governor. It has nothing to do with partisan
stimuli. It is very bad, it is all about projecting the image of the governor
and Ondo State in a good light in the eyes of the comity of nations and within
Nigeria's political milieu."
