Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has ordered an investigation
into the alleged issuance of fake appointment letters to applicants who sought
teaching jobs in Ondo State.
The directive followed a protest on Friday by
aggrieved applicants at the Governor’s Office in Akure, where they alleged that
some officials had issued them fraudulent letters during the state’s ongoing
recruitment of 2,000 teachers across its 18 local government areas.
In a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press
Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, the governor clarified that the protesters were
not genuine recruits but victims of fraud who were scammed with fake employment
and posting letters in exchange for money.
“These defrauded applicants were identified during the
biometric verification process and informed that their letters were fake,”
Adeniyan said. He added that three officials of the State Universal Basic
Education Board (SUBEB) had already faced disciplinary action for allegedly
conniving with external actors to perpetrate the fraud.
The statement further confirmed that more than 2,000
teachers duly recruited by the government had already resumed duties in primary
and secondary schools across the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has directed SUBEB to invite the
defrauded applicants for a meeting and constituted a committee to further
investigate the matter.
