The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected cult leader connected to the killing of a student at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, disclosed the development in a statement on March 15, 2026, noting that preliminary investigations linked the suspect to the murder of Ojo Peter, which occurred on December 12, 2025, in Owo.

According to the statement, the arrest represents a major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing campaign against cult-related violence under the leadership of CP Adebowale Lawal Psc(+), mnips.

Operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad in Akure, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Akinwale Tomiwa, popularly known as Bella, at NEPA Junction in Akure without incident.

The suspect is alleged to be the leader of the notorious Eiye Confraternity operating within the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and surrounding areas. Investigations also revealed that he had recently appeared on a cult-related social media platform, Naija Confra, for his alleged involvement in an attack on suspected members of the rival Aiye Confraternity along Fasawe Street in Owo. The attack was reportedly part of ongoing supremacy battles between cult groups in the area.

During the arrest, police recovered several items believed to be criminal charms, reportedly used for protection and intimidation during cult activities.

Bella has been charged to court on a six-count charge including murder and other offenses. The police are also working to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate linked to him.

The command reiterated its firm stance against cultism and violent crimes, urging the public to provide credible and actionable information to assist in combating criminal networks.

“The Ondo State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property and will not relent in bringing perpetrators of crime to justice,” DSP Jimoh said.
