Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) militants on Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) Mayanti, Gajigana, and Gajiram in Borno State, killing 11 terrorists, the Joint Task Force (North East) confirmed.

The attacks occurred between the late hours of February 28 and the early hours of March 1, 2026, targeting multiple military positions in the region.

Casualties and Equipment Seized:

  • Mayanti: 5 terrorists killed; 1 Nigerian officer, Major Umaru Ibrahim Mairiga, was killed in action. Troops recovered 3 PKT automatic anti-aircraft guns, 2 RPG-7 tubes, 4 AK-47 rifles, 2 FN rifles, 3 RPG bombs, and large quantities of 7.62mm ammunition.
  • Gajiram: 3 terrorists killed; 1 soldier injured. Seized items included 4 AK-47 rifles, 5 anti-tank bombs, 3 locally fabricated mortar bombs, 1 armed drone, 6 NATO magazines, poisoned arrows, and other weapons.
  • Gajigana: 2 terrorists killed, with troops maintaining full control of their base.

Additional Operations:

  • At Kayawa Village, terrorists fled, abandoning a tricycle, 3 motorcycles, and 5 bicycles. Troops destroyed life-support structures, arrested 2 logistics suppliers, and recovered drugs and medical consumables.
  • Ambushes around Bulturam Corner and Dadingel (Gujba LGA) neutralized 2 terrorists and yielded 2 AK-47 rifles, magazines, a bicycle, and other items.

Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for OPHK, emphasized that these operations demonstrate the Nigerian military’s resilience and battlefield dominance, degrading ISWAP’s combat capacity and denying militants freedom of action in Sector 2.

The statement concluded that all affected locations remain firmly under military control, highlighting the sustained pressure on terrorist enclaves, leadership structures, and logistics networks.

This operation underscores the continued effectiveness of Nigerian forces in counter-insurgency operations in the North East.
