Former Super Eagles’ manager José Paseiro is full of
satisfaction after returning to active coaching at Zamalek.
The Egyptian giants today 14 February 2025 unveiled the Portuguese coach who
signed a one and half year contract.
A fully recharged Paseiro took to his social networks to express satisfaction
on return to active coaching after leaving the Nigeria job on 1 March 2024.
“Happy, honoured to represent Zamalek! And with a lot of ambition. The work
has already begun and this is where all our focus and dedication lies. Making
the fans proud is what we want!,” he posted.
The 64 year old Peseiro takes over from Swiss manager Christian Gross, just a
week before the Cairo grand derby against Ahly.
No financial details were announced but Peseiro will reportedly earn $70,000
per month during the first six months.
This marks the second change of the season as Gross himself replaced another
Portuguese, Jose Gomes, who left the team in November heading to Saudi Arabia.
Peseiro is set to assume his new role immediately as Zamalek prepares to face
Petrojet on Sunday, the 14th matchday of the Egyptian league.
Gross, 72, leaves Zamalek positioned third in the Egyptian League table with 26
points, trailing leaders Pyramids FC by four points and archrivals Ahly by
three points.
Peseiro briefly managed Ahly during the 2015-16 season but quickly departed
upon receiving an enticing offer from Porto.
He brings a wealth of experience from his various stints with big names,
including Porto and Sporting Braga in Portugal, Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia,
Panathinaikos in Greece, and UAE’s Al-Wehda.
Peseiro’s notable achievements include guiding Sporting to the Europa League
final 2005.
On the international level he managed Saudi Arabia, Venezuela and guided
Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
