Former NBA star Paul Pierce is challenging a request by his ex-partner, Princess Santiago, for $30,000 per month in child support, arguing that his income has declined significantly since retiring from professional basketball.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Santiago is seeking $30,000 in monthly child support for their newborn son, King Pierce, as well as $100,000 to cover her legal expenses.

In his filing, Pierce stated that he has not played in the NBA since retiring in 2017 and no longer earns the level of income he received during his playing career, when he reportedly made more than $200 million.

The former Boston Celtics star explained that his earnings have steadily decreased since retirement. He noted that his employment with Fox Sports 1 ended in 2021, although he will continue receiving payments from the network until September 2026.

According to the filing, Pierce earned approximately $1.5 million in 2025, but expects his annual income to be reduced by nearly half once those remaining payments from Fox Sports conclude.

Pierce also cited substantial financial obligations, saying he currently supports four other children, pays $20,000 per month in spousal support, and an additional $24,000 per month in child support.

While expressing his willingness to continue supporting his son financially, Pierce is seeking joint legal and physical custody, whereas Santiago has requested sole custody of the child.

The former NBA champion told the court that he has already been voluntarily paying $5,000 per month in child support.

Pierce also challenged Santiago's claim of limited financial means, alleging that she earns more than $400,000 annually. He further accused her of sending him lengthy text messages unrelated to their child and of harassing his current girlfriend.

In his request to the court, Pierce asked that his monthly child support obligation be set at approximately $4,145, significantly lower than the amount Santiago is seeking.

He also denied allegations concerning his personal lifestyle and alcohol consumption, stating, "I live a quiet and stable life with my girlfriend. I do not drink to excess."
