The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially
received the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the Court of Appeal judgment
delivered by the Enugu Division, which upheld the removal of Senator Samuel
Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary.
The document, obtained by correspondents last night,
was acknowledged by the office of the PDP legal officer on December 24,
signaling a potential leadership shift within the party’s hierarchy.
Sources indicate that with the receipt of the
judgment, Sunday Ude-Okoye, a former National Youth Leader of the PDP, is
poised to take over as National Secretary. The South East PDP had in 2023
nominated Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu after the latter emerged as the party’s
gubernatorial candidate for the Imo State election.
The South East PDP maintained that Anyanwu
automatically vacated his position as National Secretary upon his nomination
for the governorship race. However, Ude-Okoye’s appointment sparked legal
battles, resulting in conflicting rulings from courts of equal jurisdiction.
The matter was resolved on December 20 when the Court
of Appeal upheld the decision of the High Court in Enugu, which validated
Ude-Okoye’s nomination as Anyanwu’s replacement.
In a telephone interview, PDP National Publicity
Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, confirmed that the party had received the court’s
judgment and assured that it would comply with the orders issued.
