The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged rape and murder of a 62-year-old woman in the Ori-Apata Oderemi area of Ido Local Government Area.

In a video circulating online, the victim’s son alleged that the attackers sexually assaulted his mother before killing her.

Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Friday, February 29, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade, disclosed that the suspects — Muhammed Sanusi, 42, and Ogbu James Ajah, 40 — are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

According to the police, the woman’s lifeless body was discovered along a bush path within the community by a Good Samaritan. She was found lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut to her neck.

Detectives who visited the scene reported that preliminary findings indicated the body had been there for at least seven days before it was discovered. The remains were subsequently evacuated to Adeoyo General Hospital for autopsy and post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

Police authorities said the area was immediately sealed off, and forensic experts were deployed to gather evidence to support ongoing investigations.

To ensure a thorough and discreet probe, the case has been transferred to the State CID. The two suspects, both residents of the Ori-Apata area, are said to be assisting investigators, while efforts continue to track down other possible accomplices.

The Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, alongside a delegation from the state government, visited the community to assess the situation and sympathise with the bereaved family. The CP also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate necessary deployments to maintain peace and security in the area.

The police command urged residents and the victim’s family to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands. It added that joint patrols involving other security agencies have commenced across the community and neighbouring areas to strengthen security presence and reassure residents.

Authorities assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that those responsible will be brought to justice. Residents were encouraged to provide credible information to aid the investigation.
