The Ogun State Police
Command has launched a full-scale investigation into the deaths of former Ogun
State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, who
were found dead at her residence in Iyana Agodo Village, Owode-Egba area of the
state.
The tragic incident was
confirmed on Sunday in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations
Officer, CSP Oluseyi Babaseyi.
According to the police,
officers were alerted after a concerned resident reported suspicious activity
around the property. The report prompted an immediate response from security
personnel, who visited the residence to ascertain the situation.
Babaseyi disclosed that
preliminary investigations revealed signs of forced entry and disturbance
within the premises, suggesting that the victims may have been attacked by
unidentified assailants.
“Police detectives were
immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary assessment revealed signs
of forced entry and disturbance,” he stated.
During a search of the
property, officers discovered the body of the security guard inside the
security post. Further inspection of the residence led to the recovery of
Oyesiku’s body inside her apartment.
The police also observed
that the deceased broadcaster’s vehicle was missing from the compound, raising
suspicions that the incident may have involved robbery and homicide.
“The corpse of the security
guard was discovered within the security post, while the body of Ms Oyesiku was
later found inside her apartment. The victim’s vehicle was also observed
missing from the premises,” Babaseyi added.
Following the discovery, the
Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, directed detectives to
commence a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending
those responsible for the killings.
The command said
intelligence-driven operations and surveillance activities have been expanded
to strategic locations across the state as efforts intensify to uncover the
circumstances surrounding the incident and recover the stolen vehicle.
The police expressed
condolences to the families of the deceased, the management of Ogun State
Television, and members of the media community, describing the incident as
deeply unfortunate and tragic.
Residents were also urged to
remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing any information that
could assist in the ongoing probe.
The incident has sent
shockwaves through the media community and among residents of the area, with
many calling for a swift investigation and justice for the victims.
Authorities say further
updates will be provided as investigations progress.
