Pope Leo XIV delivered a powerful message of justice, peace, and integrity to a massive crowd in Douala, Cameroon, as part of his ongoing Africa tour.

Speaking before an estimated 120,000 worshippers at Japoma Stadium, the Catholic leader called on young people to remain hopeful and committed to the common good, despite the country’s social and political challenges.

In his homily, delivered in both English and French, the Pope warned against giving in to despair and cautioned against violence and corruption, noting that such paths may promise quick gains but ultimately harm society.

The Douala visit followed a stop in Bamenda, a region affected by years of separatist unrest. There, he criticized individuals who exploit religion for personal or political gain, emphasizing the need for peace and ethical leadership.

His broader Africa tour, which began in Algeria and will continue through Angola and Equatorial Guinea, has been marked by strong remarks on global justice, including criticism of what he described as modern forms of exploitation and disregard for international law.

The Pope’s recent comments on global conflicts have drawn attention internationally, including criticism from Donald Trump, though he maintained in Douala that he remains firm in his message without fear.

Following the Mass, Pope Leo XIV was scheduled to visit a Catholic hospital in Douala and later travel to Yaoundé for an engagement with university students.

With a significant Catholic population in Cameroon, local church leaders say the visit offers a message of hope and unity at a time when the country continues to face internal tensions and recovery challenges.
