President Bola Tinubu has emphasized that national
progress hinges on deliberate investment in youths, stressing that quality
education should not be hindered by financial constraints.
Speaking through the Minister of State for Education,
Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id-Ahmad, at the 34th Convocation and 43rd Founders Day of the
Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna on Sunday, Tinubu highlighted the
university’s 43-year history as a centre of excellence in science, engineering,
innovation, and applied research.
The President noted that his administration has
expanded access to education through targeted infrastructure development and
the implementation of the student loan scheme.
Prof. Farouk Kuta, Vice-Chancellor of FUT, described
the convocation as a testament to the university community’s resilience,
creativity, and commitment to knowledge and service. He revealed that the
institution ranked seventh among Nigerian universities and 68th in Africa, and
is the highest-ranked specialised university in the country.
Kuta highlighted the university’s strategic expansion
in training healthcare professionals and medical technologists, as well as
efforts to improve staff welfare. Over 146 senior non-teaching staff and 110
junior staff were promoted, 22 staff appointments were confirmed, and key
facilities—including the school clinic and sports complex—were renovated.
The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing
Council, Dr. Mohammed Santuraki, praised President Tinubu’s reforms and FUT
leadership, while also acknowledging Niger State Governor Umar Bago’s donation
of N100 million toward a female hostel for medical students.
The overall best graduating student, Koter
Oluwadamilola from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering,
said the achievement reflected perseverance, faith, and unity.
The institution graduated a total of 5,297 students
for the 2024/2025 academic session.
