Prince Harry has said he wants to make peace with his
brother, Prince William, but suggested that not everyone around them wants the
rift healed.
"I want it to work out. Of course I do," the
Duke of Sussex said in an on-camera interview with GQ released on Tuesday,
October 20. "With everything else that's going on in the world, the most
important thing is to reconcile. That's the key point."
The 42-year-old admitted that he grieves the
estrangement from his only sibling. He noted that family conflict is something
many people face, from quarrels between siblings to broken relationships
between parents and children, and said this is a theme that keeps coming up in
his conversations with people. According to him, that relatability is probably
why the public is so fascinated by his story.
Harry urged people to let go of the past in order to
heal family divisions. "Scars stick around forever," he said, but
what matters is one's mindset toward what happened. He acknowledged that it is
harder to move on when past events still affect a person daily. Still, he said
there is already enough drama in the world and in people's lives to justify
prolonging family disputes.
When the interviewer remarked that family fallouts are
not worth it, Harry replied that this is a hard thing to tell people who are in
the middle of one.
Harry has been estranged from William and his
sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, since he and Meghan Markle stepped down as
senior working members of the royal family. The two couples remain at odds,
even though Harry and Meghan, 45, moved back to the UK with their two children
in August.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield recently told Page
Six that William has "washed his hands" of Harry following the latest
Sussex drama, including the couple's decision to pull their children from their
new UK prep school at the last minute over security concerns. She added that
the Sussexes' presence will always create noise and distraction, and that the
first few weeks back have shown why the royal family remains concerned.
