Paris Saint-Germain delivered a commanding performance to defeat Liverpool 2–0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash at the Parc des Princes.

PSG took the lead early in the game when Desire Doue struck in the 11th minute, with his effort taking a deflection that looped over goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and into the net.

The hosts maintained control throughout the match, dominating possession and creating numerous chances, while Liverpool struggled to establish any meaningful attacking rhythm.

Their advantage was extended midway through the second half when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia capitalised on a well-timed through pass, held off his marker, and calmly rounded the goalkeeper before slotting home.

Despite PSG’s dominance, they were unable to add a third goal, with a second-half penalty decision overturned following a VAR review and a late effort striking the post.

Liverpool, managed by Arne Slot, adopted an unusual tactical setup featuring three central defenders, but the approach failed to contain PSG’s attacking threats.

The visitors also made notable lineup decisions, with key players such as Mohamed Salah starting on the bench, as the team endured another difficult outing following a recent heavy defeat to Manchester City.

This result marks a concerning run for Liverpool, who have now struggled for form in recent matches, while PSG continue to show strong momentum, particularly against Premier League opposition.

Although PSG hold a comfortable two-goal advantage heading into the second leg at Anfield, the French side will be mindful of Liverpool’s ability to produce comebacks on home soil.

For now, however, PSG are firmly in control and in a strong position to progress to the semi-finals.
