The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal
Commission (RMAFC), in collaboration with the Federal Inland Revenue
Service (FIRS), has inaugurated a team of consultants to spearhead a
nationwide revenue recovery exercise aimed at strengthening fiscal governance
and plugging leakages.
The development was announced on Monday when the RMAFC
Chairman, Dr. Mohammed Shehu, hosted the Special Adviser to the
President on Revenue Matters and FIRS Chairman, Dr. Zacch Adedeji, at the
Commission’s headquarters in Abuja for the formal inauguration ceremony.
In a statement signed by Maryam Yusuf, Head of
Information and Public Relations at RMAFC, Dr. Shehu reaffirmed the
Commission’s commitment to ensuring that all revenues due to the Federation are
fully accounted for and remitted into the Federation Account.
“This exercise is not a routine administrative action
but a deliberate, result-oriented innovation designed to strengthen fiscal
governance and ensure every recoverable naira due to the Federation is
transparently remitted,” he stated.
He explained that the engagement of consultants forms
part of a strategic initiative to plug revenue leakages, enhance
transparency, and boost the fiscal capacity of the three tiers of government,
in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Represented by Coordinating Director, Shettima
Tamadi, Dr. Adedeji commended the RMAFC Chairman’s leadership and
reaffirmed the FIRS’s commitment to inter-agency collaboration.
“Nigeria has a huge revenue gap, but with stronger
collaboration between agencies and partners, we can bridge that gap and achieve
sustainable fiscal growth,” he said.
Also speaking, Secretary to the Commission, Joseph
Okechukwu, urged the consultants to work diligently and ensure the
assignment is completed within the stipulated six-month timeframe, while
ensuring all recoverable funds are returned to the Federation Account.
Delivering his acceptance speech, Lead Consultant,
Temitayo Ojeleke, described the engagement as a national call to duty,
pledging professionalism, transparency, and measurable results.
“We accept this assignment as partners in Nigeria’s
economic renewal, ready to deliver results that will strengthen the nation’s
revenue base,” he said.
The inauguration marks a major milestone in RMAFC’s
drive to enhance inter-agency collaboration, improve accountability, and
maximise revenue generation for the collective benefit of the Federation.
