Russia unleashed another
wave of overnight attacks on Ukraine, firing three missiles and 115 drones,
according to Kyiv’s air force. The assault, part of Moscow’s near-daily
barrage, killed at least two civilians — one in the southern Zaporizhzhia
region and another in Odesa.
“Russia continued its terror
against the people of Ukraine, targeting the civilian population in multiple
regions of the country,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said in a
statement on social media. She again appealed to Ukraine’s allies for more
advanced air defence systems, warning: “Every delay in strengthening
Ukraine’s air defence means more lives lost.”
The escalation came as
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky prepared to meet former U.S. President
Donald Trump in New York, amid mounting U.S. frustration over Russia’s refusal
to halt its invasion.
Ukraine has also stepped up retaliatory
drone strikes deep inside Russian territory. Russia’s defence ministry
claimed its air defences destroyed 69 Ukrainian drones overnight, with no
reported damage. Moscow’s mayor Sergei Sobyanin confirmed that more than a
dozen drones targeted the Russian capital but were intercepted.
The renewed wave of strikes
highlights the intensifying air war, as both sides increase reliance on drones
and missiles while seeking stronger international backing.
