Scouting and Mentorship Committee to Drive Talent Discovery at Niger Delta Sports Festival

The inaugural Niger Delta Sports Festival NDSF is poised to unearth talents that will replace Nigerian sports icons like Tobiloba Amusan, Ese Brume, Blessing Oborodudu, Odunayo Adekuoroye, Austine JJ Okocha and many others.

The Scouting and Mentorship Committee for the Festival gave the assurance while emphasizing it’s commitment towards helping the Niger Delta region regain its position as the number one sports hub in the country.

According to the Committee’s Chairman Godwin Enakhena the expected success of  the festival will reflect the high level of professionalism and collaborative efforts put into organisation of the competition.

“The Committee’s primary responsibility is to ensure that the best athletes from the 17 sporting events that will feature at the festival are selected by a group of professionals comprising local and foreign coaches and scouts. This Herculean task requires a collaborative effort to identify and showcase the region’s budding talents. The selected athletes will tell the story of the success of the inaugural Niger Delta Sports Festival and the talents that abound in the region,” he stated.

Enakhena who successfully midwifed football and other sports teams in Nigeria, added that the Festival offered organisers the opportunity to relaunch the Niger
Delta area as a dominant force in Nigerian sports.

“The NDSF will afford the Niger Delta region the opportunity to regain its number one position in sports, not only as a reservoir of talents but to dominate sports in Nigeria like it used to in the past. In carrying out this assignment, the committee will work as a unit, ensuring that standards are not compromised across board. Only the very best athletes will be picked and showcased to the world through the aid of technology and the invitation of foreign scouts to Nigeria during the event”, concluded the veteran sports journalist.

Enakhena commended the NDSF Main Organizing committee for appointing Nigerian sports icons like Nwankwo Kanu, Victor Ikpeba and Blessing Oborodudu to lead a strong field of accomplished athletes as Festival Ambassadors to mentor and inspire upcoming athletes.

Other members of the Scouting and Mentorship Committee.are Mrs Aniekan Ibezim, Engr. Uwanna Jacob, George Essien who will act as spokesperson, Anthony Alabra Ojo, Paul Omamomo and Akpotah Fidelis.

The Niger Delta Sports Festival will hold from 1 to 8  April 2025 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
