Senator Seriake Dickson Mourns Late Bayelsa Deputy Governor Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor

Senator Seriake Dickson has described the late Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Dr. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpor, as the best among his political mentees, following the deputy governor’s passing.

In a heartfelt statement, Dickson expressed his grief, saying:

“I have been saddened and heartbroken since his death was confirmed. We have lost a most selfless, dedicated, honest and loyal public servant and politician. I have personally lost a dependable, loyal and principled mentee who was committed to the causes we pursue in public service — service to God and humanity, and to ourselves the least.”

Dickson recounted his long-standing mentorship of Ewhrudjakpor, tracing their bond back to the 1990s when Ewhrudjakpor was a union activist and Dickson a legal practitioner. Over the years, Ewhrudjakpor followed a path of excellence, pursuing advanced education in law and serving diligently in various capacities, including as Dickson’s personal aide, Senior Legislative Aide, Commissioner for Works, Senator, and ultimately Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State.

“Dr. Ewhrudjakpor was clearly the best among my political mentees. A rare combination of competence, intellect, loyalty and selflessness,” Dickson said.

The senator highlighted Ewhrudjakpor’s unwavering principles, loyalty, and dedication even in the face of political challenges:

“He was steadfast, even to the point of almost losing his office. When he was made, unfortunately, to choose between his office and his loyalty, respect and gratitude to me, he chose the latter, and went through a lot for the principled choices he made during the almost six years he served dutifully without complaining.”

Dickson also extended his condolences to Ewhrudjakpor’s family, the Bayelsa West Senatorial District, the Ofoni community, and the Catholic Church, noting the deep impact of Ewhrudjakpor’s life of service.

“While we are devastated by this sudden and untimely loss, we must remain proud of his record of honest, dedicated, selfless, loyal and principled service to God and humanity to the very end. He will be sorely missed.”

The family, in consultation with the government, will announce funeral arrangements. Dickson called on the public to join in praying for the peaceful repose of Ewhrudjakpor’s soul and for strength to bear the loss.
