Former Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai
Mohammed, has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu in the fight
against insecurity, while urging graduates to embrace innovation and resilience
in their careers.
Mohammed delivered the 15th convocation lecture at
Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, on Friday. He emphasized that security
is a shared responsibility, stating:
“Many people who are not in the kitchen don’t know the
fire coming out of it. There is no President that wants his own country
insecure. The government is doing a lot and we must all encourage it. The
change we want must begin with all of us. Security is a local issue and all
have a role to play. Actionable intelligence is part of it and government is
doing its best in fighting it.”
The former minister reiterated his loyalty to the All
Progressives Congress (APC) and the Tinubu administration, saying he is fully
committed to supporting government efforts:
“I am a very loyal member of APC and I am 100 per cent
behind this administration. Whatever I need to do now, I will pass through the
back channel, but I’m fully behind the administration.”
Addressing the graduands, Mohammed encouraged them to
confront challenges boldly, stressing that academic degrees alone do not
guarantee success:
“The world is unpredictable, messy, and full of
unexpected opportunities. Be bold enough to speak your mind even when it feels
uncomfortable. Courage creates opportunities. When opportunities knock twice,
swallow your pride and say yes.”
He further encouraged students to embrace failure as a
stepping stone to success:
“Failures are not dead ends. They are turning points.
I failed and failed, and each time, the failures became turning points for me.”
Acting Vice-Chancellor of Achievers University, Prof.
Oyesoji Aremu, described the lecture as informative and relevant to the
challenges graduates face in today’s Nigeria.
Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council,
Prof. Bode Ayorinde, added that the institution maintains high academic and
behavioral standards, rewarding excellence and upholding discipline.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the
award of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees will take place on Saturday,
alongside the conferment of honorary degrees to eminent personalities.
