At least seven people have been killed in a fresh
attack on Mushere community in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Local sources said the incident occurred Tuesday night
and was a fallout of escalating violence following a failed kidnap attempt and
earlier attacks that claimed the life of a pastor and targeted a Fulani
settlement on Monday.
A local youth leader identified as Dafang said that
mourners preparing to bury victims of the earlier incident came under renewed
assault, forcing many residents to flee for safety.
“They struck
again just as we were trying to bury our dead,” he said. “It was chaos.”
Security operatives were reportedly contacted and
later deployed to the area, but details remain sketchy.
When reached for comment, Plateau State Police Public
Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, said he was yet to receive full details of
the attack and would provide an update once available.
The attack is the latest in a string of violent
incidents in Plateau State, where communal tensions and armed incursions
continue to claim lives despite ongoing security interventions.
