Barkin Ladi, Plateau State – Gunmen on
Monday night launched a deadly attack on Gashish community in Barkin-Ladi Local
Government Area of Plateau State, killing six persons, injuring several others,
and setting homes ablaze.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants stormed the community
around 11:34 p.m., firing sporadically into the air to wake residents before
launching a brutal assault.
“As people came out of their houses in panic, they
were attacked and killed. Many sustained gunshot injuries while houses and
properties were also torched,” a local source told reporters.

Mercy Yop Chuwang. He urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that
security agencies have been deployed to the area.
During a visit to the injured victims at the Barkin
Ladi General Hospital, Hon. Pwajok expressed deep sorrow over the attack,
describing it as a tragic setback in the council’s ongoing efforts to restore
peace.
“It is saddening that just as we are making progress
in promoting peace and reconciliation, such an attack has occurred. This
violence must stop,” the chairman said.
He commended the local vigilantes and security forces
for their efforts so far, but stressed the need for increased vigilance and
proactive measures to prevent further attacks.
Hon. Pwajok also directed medical personnel to provide
immediate care to the survivors and pledged continued support from the local
government.

agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to unite in
ensuring peace and security in Barkin Ladi.
